The Tide

What a foolish thing to do,
To discount the tide
In a way that
hardly thinks of it.

Perhaps it’s disconcerting
To think of it as it really is -
Perhaps therefore it
Is easier
To walk past it
With your eyes beneath your feet.

What a foolish thing to do,
What a foolish thing.
To discount the tide
In a way
That never thinks of it.

What is the tide to you,
My friend?
It's not its power that you see?
Not its spirit, spark or gusto -
Just the water, sand and sea.

Don’t discount the tide
My friend,
Try to look beyond the shore,
Because maybe it is something
You have never seen before.
